The Fylde is not a town, which is why searching for a car "in the Fylde" turns up half of Lancashire. It is the borough between Preston and the coast, and it takes in Kirkham, Wesham, Freckleton, Warton, Wrea Green, Elswick, Singleton, Weeton, Great Eccleston and Lytham St Annes.
We are in Kirkham, near enough the middle of it.
What that means in practice
Most of the borough is a short drive away. You can come and look at a car on a Sunday afternoon, drive it on the roads you actually use rather than a strange ring road, and be home before tea. If it turns out not to be the one, nothing is lost but the afternoon.
Country roads are harder on cars than they look
Round here that means potholes, standing water coming off the fields through winter, and a lot of short journeys. Short journeys are the ones that wear a car out quietly: the engine never gets properly warm, oil stays dirty, and a diesel particulate filter never gets hot enough to clear itself. A diesel doing four miles twice a day will cost you money eventually, however good the car is.
